In Togo, as in many other countries, the use of non-renewable energy sources generates considerable quantities of greenhouse gases as well as waste which, for lack of proper management, ends up in the streets.

In a previous PPI, ENPRO set up a household waste composting platform in Lomé with a daily processing capacity of 20 tonnes of waste per day. A project document for the valuation of the GHG emission reductions achieved has been filed with the Gold Standard.

This composting unit is now part of the Africompost project, led by GEVALOR, a partner of ENPRO since 2010, whose objective is to improve waste management in 6 African cities. The present project, also located in Lomé, aims to anaerobic digestion of corporate organic waste through the installation of biodigesters in 2 slaughterhouses and in a dried pineapple production company, which currently produce 410 tonnes of organic waste. and 10,250 m3 of liquid waste.
