History

AE2D is a Togolese NGO working to promote the sustainable management of natural resources among local communities. Its vision is that “By 2030, twenty thousand hectares of community forests in Togo’s Central and Kara regions will be sustainably managed by communities, rural poverty there will be halved, and living conditions will be improved, enabling rural populations in these two prefectures to genuinely benefit from the sustainable use of their natural resources.”

The organisation was created by a group of young people passionate about sustainable forest resource management. Alongside local communities living around the Abdoulaye wildlife area, who were deprived of usage rights, excluded from forest management and barred from hunting – one of their cultural activities – the NGO was founded to organise these local communities in establishing community forests governed and managed solely by them.
