The Togolese NGO ENPRO was founded in 1999 with the mission of contributing to the cleanliness of the city of Lomé. Since 2000, it has been operating in the city’s fifth arrondissement, where it has set up a household waste collection service. It is now a partner in the Lomé Urban Environment Project, funded by the European Union.
The project’s main objective is to help improve the urban environment of the city of Lomé while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. More specifically, the project plans to ensure the sustainable transformation of organic waste from Lomé’s fifth arrondissement into compost, in order to reduce methane emissions. The project will benefit 250 peri-urban farmers, who will have access to high-quality organic fertiliser, as well as the 235,000 residents of the fifth arrondissement, whose household waste will be regularly collected. The project will be implemented in partnership with CEFREPADE, the Lomé municipal authority, the GTVD laboratory, and GEVALOR (the Mahajanga composting unit in Madagascar), which will support the NGO in preparing the carbon credit application.
