History
The NGO ATPF (Aménagement des Terroirs et Productions Forestières – Land Management and Forest Production) is a Nigerien non-governmental organisation established by Order No. 174/MI/D/DGAPJ/DLP of 7 May 2004. Its vision is “a peaceful society in which each component has the capacity to meet its essential needs and to achieve the well-being necessary for its fulfilment, within a Sustainable Development approach.”
Since independence, major development projects in Niger, based on financial and technological transfers without genuine participation from the beneficiary populations, have not produced the expected results. In the face of rising poverty and heavy pressure on natural resources leading to their irreversible degradation, a multidisciplinary group of young Nigeriens created the NGO Aménagement des Terroirs et Productions Forestières (ATPF) to put their knowledge to work improving the living conditions of vulnerable groups, in a society where women and men are in control of their own lives and where natural resources are managed equitably and sustainably.
The NGO’s intervention strategy is based primarily on a participatory approach that places beneficiary populations at the centre, as partners and full stakeholders in the identification, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all actions relating to their development.
