The Gandoule MPA was created out of concern for sustainable fisheries management among local communities heavily dependent on marine and coastal resources. The idea originated with local communities themselves; GIE NIOWUDANE Gandoule MPA was established to ensure stakeholders’ effective participation in managing and governing the site.
