The creation of a joint management committee composed of representatives of the population and the Burundian Office for Environmental Protection (OBPE);
The creation of participatory mapping to delineate a corridor and all protected areas;
The delineation of the corridor negotiated by the communities through cadastral markers and a 3-metre-wide firebreak;
120 hectares of the corridor are being restored using native plants produced in nurseries or through assisted natural regeneration;
Daily ecological monitoring of chimpanzees is carried out;
A study on the socio-economic dynamics around the two protected areas is being conducted to guide the choice of economic activities to be developed for the benefit of communities and compatible with the preservation of chimpanzee habitats.
