Worldwide, leatherback turtles are threatened with extinction, and their populations are declining sharply. The beaches of Pongara National Park host around 3,500 nesting sites each year. This is a sensitive area that attracts a growing number of people, some of whom do not take into account the ecological importance of these beaches.
The project’s objectives are to improve conservation of the site, in order to minimise the negative impact of visitors, increase their interest in nature, and heighten their environmental awareness.
