Educational toolkit on South Pacific marine turtles

Since 1990, French Polynesia has protected green turtles, hawksbill turtles and leatherback turtles, yet all three species remain threatened, notably through the consumption of their meat, pollution and urbanisation. Most South Pacific countries face a similar situation: while the threats vary locally, the consequences for the global survival of marine turtles are the same.

For the past four years, the association Te mana o te moana has been carrying out awareness-raising activities in French Polynesia among the local population, particularly children, on the need to protect marine natural resources.

The association wishes to make an educational toolkit on marine turtles available to teachers, and to organise an awareness-raising tour reaching all schools in French Polynesia, expected to reach around 4,500 CM2 (final year primary school) pupils and 180 teachers.
