History
The SW/Niger Delta Forest project started as a conservation research project, which later (in order to increase its capacity) was registered as a non-governmental organization in Nigeria under the name of Foundation for Sustainability for Ecosystem, Wildlife and Climate Foundation. Today, the organization carries out conservation actions from the bottom up, ensuring conservation interventions for some of the most threatened species and ecosystems and in the most difficult socio-political environments. Conservation programs and strategies are evidence-based and designed to protect critical wildlife species and fragile habitats in southern Nigeria, particularly in the Southwest and Niger Delta regions, and to ensure a more sustainable future for the populations living near the wilderness. Since 2012, the SW/Niger Delta Forest Project has been involved in species and landscape level conservation efforts that are implemented through research, education and conservation communication, political advocacy and management of protected areas.
