History

FENAGIE PECHE was born in 1990 in Joal, from artisanal fishing professionals’ determination to respond to the deepening crisis facing their sector. Long a pillar of food security, job creation and social stability, artisanal fishing has faced dwindling resources, reduced access to fishing grounds, marine pollution, land pressure on landing sites, and a rise in extractive projects along the coast, compounded by climate change effects such as coastal erosion, fish species migration and declining ecosystem productivity.
