Bringing all field stakeholders together to develop agroecological initiatives and innovative, nature-based restoration actions that jointly help curb the drivers of ecosystem fragmentation in northern Cameroon’s savannas and conserve them.
Mission
Actions
-
Restoring degraded, fragile savanna ecosystems in northern Cameroon in partnership with decentralised local authorities and nearby communities.
-
Promoting agroforestry value chains (cashew, shea, beekeeping) among surrounding communities, including nomadic Mbororo populations, and supporting market structuring.
-
Organisational development: building organisational culture, member engagement, and structural capacity for maturity, credibility, visibility and accountability.
History
CERAF was born in 2003 from students at the University of Dschang volunteering to restore degraded ecosystems around their campus and the community forests of Menoua department in western Cameroon. After a long dormant period, the organisation was revived in northern Cameroon in response to human pressures (poaching, logging, farming, transhumance) around Benoue National Park, under Jean Paul Kevin Mbamba Mbamba, then treasurer and now conservator, as CERAF-NORD (2014).
