History
Biosfera was founded in 2006, the result of the passion of two Cabo Verdean ecologists, father and son, committed to protecting Cabo Verde’s coastal and marine resources. The reason for the creation of Biosfera and its first major challenge was to denounce and combat the poaching of Cabo Verde shearwater chicks, an endemic species, that was being decimated by fishermen for human consumption. Thanks to these efforts, the species is now recovenring, being considered near threatened under IUCN Red List criteria,
