Acoded’s overall objective is to help improve the state of the environment and the living conditions of populations living near protected areas and wooded land, by supporting state technical services in fulfilling their core duties on environmental protection and local development in the Lake Chad Basin area.

Actions
- Training populations living around Waza, Kalamaloué and Bénoué National Parks, as well as eco-guards, in elephant deterrence techniques (using chilli-dung bricks and beehive fencing);
- Organising nature classes with primary school pupils aged 10 to 12;
- Developing the cashew value chain in Mayo Danay;
- Supporting the conservation services of Waza and Kalamaloué National Parks in anti-poaching efforts against elephants;
- Training local facilitators living around Waza and Bénoué National Parks in local outreach techniques for anti-poaching efforts;
- Restoring degraded forest areas and elephant corridors through reforestation and set-aside protection.
History
ACODED was created by a group of newly graduated engineers wanting to put their skills to work for local development in their northern, ecologically important home region, through farmer support and advice to decision-makers.
