ABOYERD

By 2030, ABOYERD aims to be a thriving CSO leveraging nature-based solutions in at least 20 forest-dependent communities, through:

• Scientific research on wildlife, habitats and communities to inform conservation decisions
• Environmental education and awareness through workshops, radio programmes and school clubs
• Livelihoods development – beekeeping, agroforestry, NTFP value chains and cooperatives to reduce reliance on poaching
• Habitat restoration and climate action – nurseries, tree planting, assisted natural regeneration, and cleaner fuels

ABOYERD (Agriculture and Bio-conservation Organization for Youth Empowerment and Rural Development) was born from the frustration of a small group of conservationists who saw enormous efforts invested in protecting Cameroon’s biodiversity translate into minimal impact on the ground, due to two missing elements: interventions not grounded in rigorous research, and communities treated as beneficiaries rather than genuine partners. ABOYERD was set up to bridge wildlife conservation and community livelihoods, using scientific research as the foundation for every intervention and placing local people at the heart of decision-making. From its earliest activities in Campo Ma’an and Mbam-Djerem National Parks, ABOYERD built a team of young, multidisciplinary conservationists, launching concrete programmes such as the Pangolin Conservation Program and the Campo Ma’an Great Apes and Elephants Protection Program.
