History
The Development Institute was established in 2003 by a multi-disciplinary group of University of Ghana graduates (agriculture, environment, natural resource management, development planning) to bridge the gap between underserved communities’ natural resource potential and the limited policy interventions needed to translate these assets into sustainable development. It began with community mobilisation and resource management programmes across Ghana’s mountainous and coastal ecosystems, promoting the Community Resource Management Area (CREMA) approach, grounded in Ghana’s decentralisation framework (PNDC Law 208, 1988) and national forest/wildlife policies.
