ACPE (Action Citoyenne pour la Protection de l’Environnement)

• Capacity building for civil society, media and local authorities on wildlife and flora crime issues, to strengthen state and non-state actors’ ability to know, promote and protect fauna and flora.

• Communication, resource mobilisation and partnership development, both internally (keeping members informed and involved) and externally (sharing results, engaging decision-makers, fostering dialogue on environmental issues).

• Supporting local initiatives linked to biodiversity and ecosystem preservation, structuring community-based organisations and local media on legal tools and citizen oversight, networking and mobilising CBOs on natural resource governance, and monitoring public service quality in the natural resources sector.

• Strengthening internal governance, with regular board and executive meetings, technical/financial reporting, strategic guidance, and audited administrative and financial management.

ACPE is a Guinean NGO established in 2020 by a group of former employees of the French NGO WARA, which had led the GALF project (Guinée Application de la Loi Faunique). At the time funded by the FFEM through the Small Initiatives Programme (PPI), the GALF project aimed to combat the illegal trafficking of wild animal species listed under CITES and protected by national law, as well as to fight the corruption associated with it. Following WARA’s definitive withdrawal from Guinea in March 2020, its former staff sought to sustain and continue this work. To this end, they founded the NGO Action Citoyenne pour la Protection de l’Environnement (ACPE) in July of that same year. As an NGO supporting the Guinean State, ACPE’s actions aim, on the one hand, to combat wildlife and plant crime, and on the other, to contribute collectively to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Faced with the continuing degradation of resources and living conditions, ACPE’s vision is a Guinea where environmental protection is a State priority and a citizen behaviour, grounded in the values of excellence, participation, independence, accountability and transparency.
