The Gamba Protected Areas Complex (GPAC, 11,320 km²) is located in south-western Gabon. It comprises Loango National Park (1,550 km²) and Moukalaba-Doudou National Park (4,500 km²), along with their surrounding areas. The GPAC is made up of coastal forests, mangroves, swamp forests, equatorial savanna forests, rivers, lagoons and marshes. Wildlife is abundant there: forest elephant and buffalo, red river hog, gorilla, chimpanzee, mandrill, antelope, pelicans, ibises, turacos, all three African crocodile species, several freshwater and marine turtle species, manatee, hippopotamus, dolphins and whales.
This project will help strengthen local community participation in the conservation and enhancement of the Gamba Protected Areas Complex’s biodiversity.
