Mayumba National Park protects a 920 km² coastal area in the extreme south-west of Gabon. The NGO Gabon Environnement has been working in the Park for several years, carrying out turtle conservation activities in a region that hosts one of the world’s most important nesting sites, particularly for leatherback turtles.
The objectives are to ensure the long-term protection of threatened species, to support economic and social development in a disadvantaged region, to train technicians and eco-guards, to create jobs, and to raise local populations’ awareness of the need to protect these turtles.
