This project follows on from an initial PPI grant awarded in 2006 to the French association MEGAPTERA, which enabled the creation of a local association: CETAMADA.
The first PPI project achieved its objectives, notably by helping to establish regulations on whale-watching ecotourism around Sainte-Marie Island, and by developing environmental education and craft activities centred on humpback whales.
The objective of CETAMADA’s project is to extend these activities at national level, by supporting the development and promotion of sustainable whale-watching ecotourism benefiting local operators and various local communities. Two new sites are covered by this project: Tuléar and Nosy Be.
